The coronavirus pandemic caused disruption and a lack of opportunity for many people in the Liverpool city region. For Halton-based Balazs Spring, it was no different.

It was his dream to become a commercial airline pilot. He was initially granted funding for his pilot training, only for it to be withdrawn when the pandemic hit. He was suddenly left with no job, no access to training, and no resources to fulfill his goals.

Balazs contacted our partners Citizen’s Advice Halton and was given his advisor Michelle, who helped him secure a full-time job within weeks in order for him to save up to fund the rest of his training. He was also able to access our Better Off Fund, a programme which supports those facing financial barriers to get into employment. Through this, he was able to afford work boots and clothes to support him in his new role.

Fast forward to the present day, Balazs is now a qualified pilot for the past 6 months. With the help of the Better Off Fund and it’s partners, he is now thriving in his professional life and achieving his goals.
