The Gentle Midwife - Wirral - The Women's Organisation

Despite already being a Mum of 2 and working in the NHS, it didn’t stop Wirral based Hannah Parker broadening her horizons, achieving her goals, and launching her business The Gentle Midwife in December 2022.

With 8 years of experience in the NHS, she saw first-hand the devastating effects the pandemic had on face-to-face antenatal services and decided to start a business providing external antenatal classes. Hannah runs sessions focusing on preparing for labour, preparing for parenthood, hypnobirthing, birth planning, and elective c-section.

Hannah passionately believes knowledge is key when it comes to labour and birth, and provides a relaxed environment for women and families to meet up and learn collectively about this new phase of their life. Sessions can be ran either from a client’s home or from Cub and Calf Parent Hub in West Kirby, Wirral, along with bespoke, tailored course content created especially for The Gentle Midwife clientele.

When contacting The Women’s Organisation back in August 2022, she was assigned support from our Enterprise Hub programme along with 1-2-1 business advisor Heidi. From this, she was able to create a strong business plan and attended fully-funded courses in bookkeeping and social media.

What support did you receive from Enterprise Hub programme to grow your business? How helpful did you find the service?

“I have had the incredible support off Heidi since August 2022 where she first heard me talk about all my ideas and helped me devise a plan to make my vision come to life. Heidi’s support has been completely invaluable, she has been on hand whenever I have needed her and has always looked for extra support and anything that may help me further. I would have been lost without her!

I would 100% recommended support from The Women’s Organisation to help know where to begin and tell them not to be stressed or overwhelmed with book-keeping. Initially, I feel very nervous about this but the book-keeping seminar I attended and the simple book-keeping spreadsheet I was sent, makes it very simple to understand.”

What lessons have you learned or interesting highlights have there been in your journey?

“The biggest lesson I am learning is to sell myself. I think as women, sometimes we struggle putting ourselves out there and being confident, so I’m slowly learning to tell people my achievements and promote myself.

If you’re a busy mum, don’t put your dreams on the back burner! You can achieve anything you set your mind to. I can’t thank The Women’s Organisation enough for their support, you’re amazing!”
