WO Business Academy

Our third WO Business Academy cohort graduated in February! Led by our business advisors Heidi and John, this was our biggest cohort yet and it was refreshing to witness another group of women grow their skills, confidence, and local network during the four weeks they were with us.

One of the graduates, Rebecca, came to us looking for support in founding an eco-friendly, sustainable arts and crafts business. Armed with an idea and the determination to make it happen, she signed up the WO Business Academy to build her business knowledge, skillset, and self-belief. Rebecca opened up about her experience at The Business Academy and her advice for fellow budding women entrepreneurs…

Introduce yourself and your business idea:

Hi! I’m Bex from Positively Rubbish, an arts and crafts business using waste materials to create new beauty.

WO Business Academy

What has your favourite course/workshop been and why?

Definitely the finance session (I’m sure John will love that!). Whilst I’m confident with numbers, I lacked the knowledge of best business practice. It was great to find out everything I needed to consider and a way to record it.

How much more confident do you feel after completing the Academy?

So much. Every time I’m here I feel confident like “I can do this!”. Any insecurities I’ve had I’ve discussed with Heidi, John, and my peers and they’ve helped me focus and reflect objectively.

What is your favourite thing about The WO Business Academy?

Everything. All the staff are approachable and friendly from the moment you walk in. I also love the building and the artwork displayed. There’s really not a bad word I could say.

What are your next steps?

I’ve already book on more courses to help develop my business to aid with website building and social media content. I plan to launch in May 2023.

Any other comments?

For any women wondering if they should try to make their idea a reality, no matter how insecure or silly they feel, give The Women’s Organisation a try. You won’t regret it.
