After overcoming her own personal gambling struggles and working in various roles in gambling recovery, Nadine realised there was a gap of support for women who were affected by gambling. Armed with an idea, passion, her laptop, and support from The Women’s Organisation, she founded Thrivin’ Together CIC, an online, women-only space to help women nationwide recover from gambling-harm.
Based in her spare room in Tameside, Greater Manchester, Nadine provides a virtual safe space delivering information, advice, well-being and practical activities and peer support, all designed from lived experience. She is planning to expand her services in the coming months, including a finance course with external organisations and creating a series of focus groups surrounding crime, neurodiversity, relationships, faith, and health to make a truly inclusive space for all women.
Nadine’s own personal experience with current gambling recovery services highlighted how most of the content was based around the needs and experiences of white males. The services provided by Thrivin’ Together CIC puts women from all backgrounds at the centre of what they do, whilst offering complete anonymity to all clientele so participants feel safe and protected.
After contacting The Women’s Organisation, Nadine was enrolled onto our Greater Manchester based Excelerate Labs programme and assigned 1-2-1 support from our business advisor Heidi. Since then, she has attended multiple workshops and courses for her professional development and successfully launched her business.
What support did you receive from Excelerate Labs programme to grow your business? How helpful did you find the service?
“I receive ongoing support from Heidi who helps me say things out loud and filter into actions. Just knowing that support is there is like an anchor when things get overwhelming. Heidi also comes up with some really common sense suggestions!
I’ve also attended the Coaching Conversations course led by Anne-Marie which was incredibly useful in content and connections which has led me to attend a Recovery Coaching course. I’ve also attended the social media course and I’m due to attend the Project Course in mid-February. Being part of a majority female community is really encouraging and strengthening.”
