Our fantastic team at The Women’s Organisation is growing! Meet our new Head of Business Advice Plus, Sophia Kennedy! Read more about what she got up to before joining us!

What’s your full name and where are you from?

My name is Sophia Kennedy and I am from the Wirral!

Tell me how you first found out about The Women’s Organisation and become part of our team?

I follow The Women’s Organisation on their social media channels and I saw the recruitment opportunities advertised on Twitter.

What kind of things have you done prior to coming to The Women’s Organisation?

It’s been a bit of a mixed bag, I was Business Growth Lead at the Wirral Chamber, managing and delivering full funded business support for growth in SMEs. I was Key Account Manager for some strategic partners mostly in the Visitor Economy Sector and also ran all networking events and hosted our online webinars.

I was BDM for the University of Chester, leading on a Business Growth Programme, supported an Innovation 2 Commercialisation project, was the BDM for the NoWFOOD Centre an incubation and R&D Hub for food and drink manufacturers, BDM for the Energy Centre that was a space for businesses developing energy efficient and low carbon technologies with a replica national grid station for innovation testing.

What has surprised you about working at The Women’s Organisation?

The extent of support that can be accessed by not only businesses but individuals as well. The offering is far more than I expected.

What’s the best thing about working at The Women’s Organisation so far?

The team, they are all so lovely and have been so welcoming that it made being new to the organisation much less daunting and I feel I have settled right in. The knowledge and resource that this team have to drive the values and mission of the women’s org is amazing and I am so looking forward to being a part of it.

What might (someone) be surprised to know about you?

I was on BBC Inside the Factory as an official sausage taster.

What do you do when you aren’t working?

I love walking my dog and I go the gym as much as I can and when we get the rare, nice weather I go cycling. I am quite an active person so on days off I try to plan activities like ninja parks, theme parks, escape room games, but I do enjoy going to the cinema and going out for food and drink.
