Working as an NHS mental health worker and a qualified CBT therapist, Claire Deeney has always had a passion for helping and supporting people in their time of need. When it was her turn to prioritise her own mental wellbeing, she discovered a new passion and eventually her new business venture in the Japanese practice of forest bathing.
During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Claire began searching new techniques and methods to improve her mental health. This is where she came across forest bathing, otherwise known as shinrin-yoku in its home of Japan. Forest bathing is the practice of quietening the mind and relaxing by immersing yourself in nature through all your senses. Once she became familiar with the practice, she felt a huge desire to share it with others, stating it is her mission to ‘help people reconnect with nature at a deeper level for their own mental and physical wellbeing’.
Claire decided to create her own business called ‘Journey’s in Nature’ along with the help of The Women’s Organisation’s Enterprise Hub programme. She is the only certified forest bather in the Liverpool city region and offers a range of services such as public, corporate, business, and 1-2-1 forest bathing sessions and is planning to introduce children-only sessions.
How did The Women’s Organisation help?
Once getting in touch with The Women’s Organisation, Claire was given 1-2-1 supervision with our trusted business advisor Angelica and enrolled onto a wide range of our fully-funded workshops to boost her confidence on certain aspects of her business.
“I found the help invaluable as it has helped me gain a clearer grasp of what I want to offer in my business, how to plan ahead and set realistic goals without becoming overwhelmed.
One thing I have found difficult, is the social media element of promoting the business, it can feel like a full time job in itself! I found the webinars from the Women’s Org really helpful in helping me get to grips with the basics of this part of being a sole trader.
I found the whole experience helpful and I’m so glad I approached the Women’s Organisation for support as I was feeling like I was ‘floating’ and didn’t know where to go next in terms of my business and future goals. I would 100% recommend any woman starting out in their own business to get in touch with WO.”
