We Are Pink is an award-winning North West PR and marketing agency that offers effective, straight to the point solutions covering creative and content driven services.
Established in 2011 by Nicola Pink, the company, previously known as Pink Media, has grown from a one-woman operation working out of a spare bedroom, to what is now a well-respected agency with a portfolio of impressive clientele covering all sectors from hospitality through to leisure, trade and legal to name a few.
After nine years in business, Nicola and her team felt that the time was right to give the company a completely new look and feel with a rebrand however their values remain firmly rooted around integrity and honesty. We Are Pink combines a modern feel and an innovative, straight-talking approach with a genuine love for what they do.
With extensive experience as a North West journalist and writing for some of the biggest print and online media outlets, Nicola decided to go it alone with a vision to do business differently.
Building on her background in PR, and her love of writing, she established what was then known as Pink Media with just a hired laptop and a lot of big ideas. However, four days in, she says she felt ‘clueless’ and still did not have a clear business plan. That is when she made her first appointment with The Women’s Organisation.
Having recently undergone a rebrand and now, as We Are Pink, the team are ready to begin their next chapter.
That day, things changed. In the space of an hour Nicola met with a member of the team for some initial advice, viewed one of the building’s biggest offices (which she later moved into) and was assigned a mentor who helped her develop a business plan.
We Are Pink’s business model has always been digital-first, which allows Nicola and her clients more flexibility. It is one of the reasons she has been able to have her daughter, Stella, whilst keeping things running smoothly.
Nicola explains: “As a self-confessed workaholic, I have to be honest when I say that welcoming my daughter Stella into the world was quite the challenge – and I do not just mean the parenting! Initially, it was difficult to step away from my business (affectionately known as my ‘first baby’), but now I believe that taking that slight step back from the day-to-day running of We Are Pink has helped me become a better businessperson all round. People say that you cannot be a mum and have a business, but I am proof that you can.”
Since Nicola’s very first meeting with an adviser, The Women’s Organisation continued to support her in every way they can, helping her deal with all kinds of queries – from accounts to training opportunities and recruiting her first member of staff as the business grew.
We Are Pink has changed dramatically since 2011 and, has recently introduced a number of new services from copywriting, branding, design and influencer marketing to name a few.
With a strong Northern presence, and having worked with clients as far as Newcastle and Birmingham, the majority of their retainers are sourced reactively, with brands reaching out to them. In 2019, We Are Pink became a multi-award-winning agency, named as PR Business of the Year, and Nicola herself named as ‘Business Person of the Year’ at the Merseyside Independent Business Awards.
Having introduced more creative-led services into their offering, We Are Pink is now a full-service agency with clients in a wide range of sectors, from hospitality, leisure and entertainment to professional services and trade. They have also helped secure prestigious award wins for clients, 75% of whom are shortlisted.
“Our services continue to grow at a rapid rate,” says Nicola, “with us now offering the likes of media relations, social media management, events, influencer engagement, digital marketing and design and printing. We have even set up our own Influencer Network, designed to connect bloggers with brands across the country.”
Today their team of senior managers are just as likely to spend a day on site at a client venue as be creating captivating content in the studio.
Nicola says: “Although I was excited about working for myself, I had no desire or experience when it came to being an employer. The Women’s Organisation was my soundboard – something you just don’t have when you start your own business. Eight years in and I couldn’t be more proud of what we have achieved.”
Thanks to Nicola’s determination and vision, We Are Pink have been able to continue to support their clients despite the pandemic, working with businesses all around the country, from an adults-only crazy golf franchise to a 197-year-old award-winning legal firm. For Nicola and her team, the future is bigger and brighter than ever.
Nicola added: “We have shown incredible resilience as a team throughout lockdown and have had to adjust the way that we do things, but we’ve continued to work closely with our clients to achieve fantastic results for them, even in the economic climate that we’re in. With that in mind, this felt like the perfect time to announce our rebrand and show our new look and vision to the world.
“As we’ve evolved and innovated with the times, it was only right that our company persona did too and We Are Pink is a reflection of that – it’s a celebration of the success that we’ve had since 2011, as we prepare to take our next step. Our brand represents us as a core team of professionals who really invest into our clients’ businesses.”
