Liverpool-based Vauxhall Law Centre defend the housing and welfare rights of those in the Liverpool city region. This client, who will be anonymised for privacy reasons, was struggling with the cost-of-living crisis, rising bills, and increased rent. She had recently turned pension age and found herself in financial trouble. She turned to Vauxhall Law Centre to support with housing benefit advice and energy efficiency.

The client was assigned a dedicated key worker, Alexander. Upon further investigation, Alexander uncovered that she was suffering with long term health conditions and had recently received a notice seeking possession from her landlord. Two adult children and her grandson were living with her, putting the client under severe mental pressure.

Her keyworker made sure she got the money support the client needed. She was put through a benefit check which help her receive Attendance Allowance and Housing Benefits. Because of this, she was also able to claim a full reduction on council tax.

The client is now £244.52 better off per month or £12,715 a year. She is now safe in her property as the possession proceeding were bought to a close. She now feels a lot happier in her day-to-day life and now has the financial resources and energy to engage with local community groups.
