Black History Month Events Showcasing Women – Our Pick

Few cities embrace Black History Month with the energy of Liverpool, and this year we are thrilled to see an intriguing line-up of events showcasing the historical and current impact of Black women from our city and beyond.

From highlighting incredible creatives to raising awareness, Liverpool’s Black History Month is an invitation to delve further and broaden your knowledge for the remaining 11 months of the year.

Here’s our pick of 3 key events that showcase female strength, creativity, and historical impact:

1. Black Maternal Health Exhibition

Liverpool Black History Month 2025 Maternal Health Exhibition

At present, black women are more than twice as likely to die during pregnancy or shortly after childbirth compared to white women. (MBRRACE UK, 2025). This is caused by both differences in medical treatment, biases, and the significant mental health impact of these realities during pregnancy and after birth.

This powerful new installation uses creative material to revisit themes of migration and reflect on the persistent disparities in Black maternal health today. The exhibition connects historical research, such as that of enslaved midwives, and modern challenges, offering a space for reflection and community planning.
