build your resilience

After 2022, we need resilience more than ever. But what is it?

Resilience is the ability to bounce back after tough times. It is when you can adapt to change and overcome difficulties. For example, losing your job, divorce, or a bereavement are all examples of a traumatic event which will require an inner strength and a healthy set of practices to follow to help overcome them.

Hardships are almost a certainty in every person’s life so building your resilience is extremely important. It won’t make your problems go away, but it will help you handle stress and find light at the end of the tunnel.

If you aren’t as resilient as you’d like, you can easily start making small changes in your day-to-day life. We’ve put together three top tips below:

Nurture Yourself

Learning how to look after yourself, respecting your boundaries, and practicing positive self-talk is the backbone to being resilient. This way, you’ll have coping mechanisms and healthy habits to rely on when you face hardships.

Get Connected

Make sure you’re surrounded by a supportive network. Whether that be family, friends, or colleagues, having a healthy support system to rely on during tough times can help build resilience. Integrating yourself within your local community through a new hobby, charity work, and organisations is another way to get connected and form strong connections.

Be Proactive

Don’t ignore your problems. Once you’ve taken some time to process your hardships, negative emotions, and reactions, then figure out a plan on how to overcome them and heal. It is important to remember your situation can improve if you work at it.

Once you start to implement these three key strategies, your road to resilience will become much easier. It may take a while but overtime your resilience will grow. In the meantime, consuming healthy types of media such as well-being books, podcasts, and videos are proactive ways to build healthy habits. Taking part in workshops and courses too are a great way to pick up other tips on building your resilience.
