About The Other City
Renowned arts institution Islington Mill, in collaboration with Salford City Council have been awarded a £3.3m grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to create a new artist-led community around the Islington Mill site – ‘The Other City’.
The ERDF funding supports the purchase and conversion of New Islington Mill to complete the heritage footprint of the historic mill and expand the Salford’s creative centre for generations of artists to come.
Alongside the renovations a Creative Support Programme will nurture new and growing creative enterprises in Greater Manchester through expert advice, training and development opportunities. The programme will be delivered over the next 3 years.
Part funded by The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) The Creative Support Programme will be delivered in partnership with The Women’s Organisation.
The Creative Support Programme will be run from The Other City but be open to creative SMEs at the site and across Greater Manchester over a 3-year period and will:
- Offer business survival, support and growth service to 200 GM-based creative SME industries.
- Increase workspace accommodating 118 jobs
- Create 40 new jobs in supported SMES
The Creative Support Programme – Business Advice
Bespoke business advice is available for both men and women living in Greater Manchester who have a creative business idea or an established business they would like to expand.The Women’s Organisation offers a combination of one-to-one business advice and interactive workshops to offer support from initial concept to significant business growth and employment gains.
Participants will benefit from tailored support on topics such as:
- Business plans
- Effective Marketing
- Managing Social Media
- Targeted Business Networking
- Creating New Revenue Streams
- Business Leadership
The Creative Support Programme will be delivered from Islington Mill and is open to creatives from across Greater Manchester looking for support with their business idea or growth ambition.
