SUMMARY:Change It Renew : Champions Of Change
DESCRIPTION:Come & hear the inspirational stories of our champions of change\, learn how they coped\, & find out how you can become a champion of change.\n\n\n\nChampions of Change \nWednesday 28th October – 11:00 am – 12:30 pm Via Zoom \nThese women are champions of change. \nThey have shown incredible resilience\, determination\, and commitment. Between them\, they faced personal challenges and found the strength to channel their energy in a positive direction and make the sort of changes that significantly improve lives. \nFrances Molloy \n Frances experienced the heart-breaking tragedy of losing a child when her son\, Michael\, was killed in a crash while traveling back from the Bestival music festival in September 2012. It was her desire to get justice for her son which inspired her to launch the Tyred Campaign. She vowed never to stop until there was a change in the law: “To give up would be saying it was okay that Michael was killed. And it wasn’t.” Her resolve garnered local and national support and her campaign has taken her to parliament. In July\, the government announced a ban on old bus and lorry tyres from roads. Announcing the law change\, Roads Minister Baroness Vere said it had come about as the result of Frances Molloy’s “years of campaigning”. \nCynthia Monteverde \nCynthia is the Founder/Director of Betterdays Homes for Domestic Violence. Having seen the effects of domestic violence on families and children throughout her career\, the passion to do something positive and make a change drove dynamic Cynthia Monteverde to take action. With financial support from a friend\, she worked to set up ‘Betterdays Homes’ shelter for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. Cynthia said\, “I have been through domestic violence myself in my early years. Then working at a children’s home in 1993 I realised it was not just the woman affected by domestic violence.” Her work is changing the lives of women by enabling them to break away from abusive relationships and giving them a safe space to create a better future for themselves and their children. \nThese are two exceptional women and their message is that you also have the power to make a difference; it could be in your own life or maybe transforming the lives of others. Hear their inspirational stories\, learn how they coped\, and find out how you can become a champion of change. \n‘Change It: Renew’ a programme of support to help women across the Liverpool City Region to improve their resilience\, coping mechanisms\, and mental wellbeing. \nFor more information or to book a place on this course\, please contact our engagement team at 0151 706 8111 or email hello@thewo.org.uk

One area of life we need to keep an eye on during difficult times is keeping our mental health in check. Join us for this interesting look into how creativity and arts can support positive mental health. We are delighted to welcome art therapy experts: \nCatherine Rogers – Artist & Art Therapist – Cut Out Collage \nCatherine is a qualified artist and art therapist who provides a therapeutic space to create a collage. Catherine has delivered workshops for the NHS\, Prisons\, and Private Health Care\, as well as individual workshops. She is a trained Art Psychotherapist. Catherine will speak for about 20 mins about her journey\, how and why she became an art therapist and the impact this has had on people’s lives. \nCheryl Joyce – Fluid Art Therapist Sean’s Place \n Cheryl is an artist from Liverpool who specialises in paint pouring\, also known as Fluid Art. She runs acrylic paint pouring sessions at a local men’s mental health charity\, Sean’s Place\, and is taking steps to set up a social enterprise that will create jobs for people on the autistic spectrum. \nAfter searching for an easy art method to teach autistic people as part of a new business idea\, Cheryl discovered paint pouring and found this was having a positive impact on her own mental health. A long-term sufferer of anxiety and depression triggered by chronic stress\, Cheryl found watching the paint moving around the canvas deeply calming. Her goal is to help people find a way to switch off from the stresses of everyday life. \n‘Change It: Renew’ a programme of support to help women across the Liverpool City Region to improve their resilience\, coping mechanisms\, and mental wellbeing. \nFor more information or to book a place on this course\, please contact our engagement team on 0151 706 8111 or email hello@thewo.org.uk

Sharron launched Objet Dahlia just before the Covid lockdown\, so not what many would suggest is an ideal time to start anything new but lockdown gave Sharron the free time to put all her efforts into her new business\, which is doing pretty well considering the current financial climate. Objet Dahlia is based online only and has just partnered with Not on the high street. \n\n\n\nGaby Mendes – Talk Twenties \nLeaving the teaching profession at 23 Gaby wanted to expand her skillset and explore her business idea for Talk Twenties. Gaby felt overwhelmed by the finance and marketing side of things and didn’t know where to start\, so reached out to The Women’s Organisation for support. Gaby launched Talk Twenties in January of this year to cover all the things that school never teaches you ranging from figuring out how to buy your first home\, navigating a career change to prioritising your mental health. Talk Twenties are basically a one-stop-shop for any question you may feel silly for asking in your twenties! They have a popular podcast\, online resources\, webinars and courses and blogs for our twenty-something community. \n\n\n\nAmy Flynn – Dripped Goods \nAmy is a contemporary jewellery designer and illustrator specialising in bespoke pieces\, textiles and silversmithing.
